This also serves a socio-political goal of weakening savings and disempowering savers – savings are the source of most investment capital, so starving the markets of any non governmental sources of capital brings the markets under Progressive control. Savers are also able to live and work independently , which of course Progressives cannot tolerate or allow. Stripping savers of the value of their accumulated savings makes them more susceptible to government pressure and brings them into the fold as recipients of benefits – benifits they would not have needed had their savings been intact.

Another effect is to weaken American currency abroad by continually devaluing it.
