To put things in perspective, a virus like B.1.617.2 that can spread through population without immunity extremely rapidly. If it showed up in Europe or the In memory of our fallen Brothers and Sisters Freedom isn_t free never forgotten shirt and I will buy this US back in early 2020, the results would have been truly devastating. In most urban centers, the cases would be doubling approximately every day, and by the time it was identified as something different from just a bad flu outbreak, it would have already spread through the majority of the population, and it would be too late to do anything about it. The healthcare system would completely collapse, and 5%-10% of the population would likely die. Of course, the situation now is quite a bit different. We now know how the virus spreads and how to stop it. A substantial portion of the population has gained immunity through either infection or vaccination, and the consensus so far seems to be that such immunity should remain valid against B.1.617.2.As biology majors are wont to say, “Biology is messy.” Just because you have a virus does not mean that you have any defense against getting it again. The odds are it will not be zero or maximum possible defense, but the defense will be related to the actual attack. Sorta like defending against an invasion, was it repelled by a boy scout and his dog, or did the entire army mobilize? If it was just the boy and his dog, it is unlikely they would be very useful when a second or more prepared wave invaded. It would be quite rare for a vaccinated person to “catch” the COVID-19 virus after they have been vaccinated for same. Full immunity will be reached in about 14 to 15 days after the 2nd shot of the vaccine. We have seen how smallpox, diphtheria and other vaccines have eradicated those pathogens in our population so that those diseases are very rare if seen at all anymore, at least not in America or other primary cities in the world. As humans travel more and more easily and rapidly, humans cross the globe to places where some of these pathogens are and are being infected more with them the more we travel and rapidly reach these other parts of our world. Many countries require certain vaccinations before you can even enter their country, and I expect we will see the SARS-CoV-2 vaccination added to some of those country’s requirements in time.

NO one wants to get sick and some of these diseases can be lethal in people, especially people who are not well to begin with and then get exposed to germs they have never had before and are not immune to them. But as time progresses, world authorities will all cooperate in seeing that people DO become immune to some of these diseases by being vaccinated for them. Children in America and other progressive countries, begin a vaccination program within their first year of life, e.g., healthcare providers recommend that children receive their first dose of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccination when they are about a year old, or a bit older, and then a second dose of that vaccine just prior to elementary school entry (around 4 to 6 years of age).
