Super Mama Mom and Baby Sloth Classic Shirt

Would your horse run away if not fenced in? There are a hundred good reasons to fence in a horse, but I’m only asking if it would run away when unfenced. I have followed the Super Mama Mom and Baby Sloth Classic Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this wild ponies of Assateague Island for decades, since the 60s, when I first read Misty of Chincoteague, and 1972, when I first visited the islands. The wild ponies, both the Maryland herd (managed as wildlife) and the Virginia herd (managed by the Chincoteague Fire Co) come from domestic stock that was turned loose on the big barrier island (abut 40 miles long and a mile wide at its widest). Colonists wanted to avoid fencing laws, building fences, and avoid certain taxes. Sheep and cattle were also turned loose there. Animals were rounded up as needed; the vestige of this history is still seen in the annual Pony Penning on Chincoteague VA. Anyone keeping domestic horses or ponies on their property now, has fences… except perhaps the Leonard Farm, which I passed kayaking one year. Ponies were loose in the backyard, and could come down to the water. But this farm is well out of the way, out of town, away from traffic. Everywhere else, there are fences.

The ponies of the Super Mama Mom and Baby Sloth Classic Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this island have distinct bands, and territories, but those shift and change as they feel the need. So “would they run away?” … they tend to stay in familiar places. A horse you fall off of on a trail may run home, or to the trailer. Or it may run a short distance, stop and come back, or begin grazing. Horses are NOT dogs and don’t generally “heel” like a dog, or come back like one. You can train them to come when called, but often their own wishes to graze, or fear of a four fanged horse eater (plastic bags and other fun stuff) will override that.
