Rap is a direct descendant of rock and roll. Well … there isn’t much rock and roll there. It certainly had a lot of pop hits, but they were in very smooth style. You could classify it as pop, and certainly some of its stuff would be folk, but rock and roll? The Carpenters are gone, and they had a bit more success on the We are quaranteachers we roll with it shirt charts in the same time period, just as a point of comparison. It’s hard to see where Denver had a strong influence on rock and roll artists (as opposed to country or pop artists) or otherwise impacted rock and roll.
