For Xi showing loyalty to the C.C.P. was the main goal early in life, as his own father had been demoted and dishonored by the C.C.P. during Mao’s cultural revolution. Rather than becoming disillusioned by this, Xi instead wanted to prove that his loyalty was greater than suffering his family endured at the hands of the very actions of the same political party he preserves. It could indeed be argued that both Vladimir Putin and Xi spent much of their life being insecure and attempted to resolve this by first building consensus via nationalism in their own mind and then broadcasting this message. Both leaders mastered the use of using even marginal outside threats to the legitimacy of their vision, to gain support within their respective nations from a majority of the population. Both leaders found the ideology of past autocratic regimes which ruled their respective nations as most the desirable sources of inspiration.
